Our story
a note from the kitchen
"I wanted something sweet I didn't have to explain away."
alara started at a kitchen counter, with a bowl of tempered chocolate and a plate of medjool dates. I had been reading labels for months, the ones that promise health and then list four sweeteners, and I couldn't find the thing I actually wanted to eat.
So we made it. One date, split by hand. A spoon of nut butter ground in our own kitchen. A thin shell of dark couverture, sweetened only with coconut sugar. Salt, if the flavour asks for it. That's the whole recipe, and it hasn't changed.
We choose every ingredient ourselves and keep the list short. Nothing goes into a box that we would not happily eat at our own table.
Everything is finished by hand and packed the same week it is made. There is no warehouse, no long shelf life, no reason for either. If a box arrives at your door, it was in our kitchen a few days ago.
